Madrid, heart of a new NATO

The NATO Summit, held in Madrid on June 29 and 30, is the cover theme of issue 10 of the English edition of the Revista Española de Defensa. It provides extensive information on this historic meeting, in which the new Strategic Concept was given the green light, an organization oriented at 360 degrees and with more troops and better equipped was consolidated, the membership of Sweden and Finland was approved and support for Ukraine was reiterated. An article by the ambassador representing Spain in the Atlantic Council, Miguel Fernández-Palacios, analyzes the results of the Summit.
The Revista also includes the presentation of a book about the 40th anniversary of Spain's NATO membership and reports on the visits made by Margarita Robles to the Spanish military in the Baltic Air Police missions, in Lithuania, and enhanced Forward Presence, in Latvia. A report on the civil-military cooperation programs (CIMIC) that our country is developing in Lebanon is also included.
The Armed Forces section reports on the Lone Paratrooper exercise over León, in which paratroopers from five allied countries participated, and the Brilliant Jump and Cold Response exercises, in which forces from the entire Alliance were projected to Norway.
An analysis of the Strategic Compass, the European Union's action plan to strengthen its security and defense policy, is offered. In addition, the situation in Mali and the instability in the Sahel are analyzed. In pages of history, the figure of King Alfonso X the Wise is evoked, on the eighth centenary of his birth.
