It focused on direct operations and hostage rescue.
As a result of the excellent relationship between the MCOE (Spanish Joint Chiefs of Special Operations) and its American counterpart, the USSOCOM in which Spain has a permanent liaison officer, experts from the US Special Operations Commands for Europe (SOCEUR) and Africa (SOCAF), as well as SOCs from the Army (USASOC), the Navy (WARCOM) and the Air Force (AFSOC), joined forces with members of different Special Operations Units from the Spanish Army, Navy and Air Force in a symposium which took place in early September.
The event was the result of mutual interests in sharing experiences, lessons learned in direct action procedures and different scenarios, and was held in two phases: one, which took place at the School of Marine Cartagena and organized and coordinated by the Spanish Special Warfare Naval Force, discussed maritime and land battle issues; the other, directed by air personnel from both fixed wing and rotary aircrafts, took place at the Getafe Air Base.
The experience was highly valued by both parties, who have shown interest in maintaining the bilateral cooperation within what is known as "SOF Community of Interest".
