Naval Attaché

The main task of the Naval Attaché is to support and advise the Defense Attaché in matters related to the Spanish Navy in the United States and its representation.

The Naval Attaché reports to the Defense Attaché, while keeping a functional relationship with Spain’s Naval Headquarters on specific topics.

The Naval Attaché relies in the specialized support of the Technical Office of the Mission of the Spanish Navy in the United States (MISMARES), which organizationally is part of the Defense Attaché Office.

Duties

The Naval Attaché’s main duties are:

  • Report activities, plans or projects of interest to the Spanish Navy or the Spanish Ministry of Defense, which may arise within the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps or Coast Guard, while managing official requests for information (RFIs) as required, within these organizations.
  • Represent the Spanish Navy in the United States, being the official liaison with organizations and agencies with which the post interacts. Duties may include working or social activities with other members of the Naval Attaché Corps in Washington.
  • Address administrative needs and manage logistics for the Spanish Navy personnel dependant of the Naval Attaché office. Also, supports Spanish Naval Personnel on mission or on assignment within the United States, specifically from the MISMARES Technical Office, part of the Defense Attaché office.
  • Support the activities of Spanish vessels within U.S. waters and ports. Manage port stops and coordinate their needs and activities. Provide coordination of these activities in Canadian waters and ports in support of the Defense Attaché.
