On Thursday May 12th a ceremony was held at the Ambassador's residence, on occasion of the Royal and Military Order of Saint Hermenegildo and Military and Aeronautic Merit Cross recently awarded to military and civilian personnel assigned to the Defense Attaché Office.
The ceremony was chaired by the Ambassador of Spain, Ramon Gil-Casares Satrustegui, who was accompanied by the Defence Attaché, General Ángel Valcarcel Rodriguez and by the Defense Adviser to the Permanent Observer Mission of Spain to the Organization of American States and Adviser for Hemispheric Security Affairs, Admiral Luis Cayetano Garrido. The event was also attended by relatives of those who have been decorated, as well as by other staff of the Defense Attaché Office.
The senior decorated officer, Lieutenant Colonel Hiscio Belluga Capilla, addressed a speech on behalf of the whole group, mainly referring to the history of the Order of Saint Hermenegildo and the significance of these awards as a recognition of the exemplary behavior in the daily commitment to accomplishing the assigned duties.
The Defense Attaché took the floor to congratulate those who had been honored, asking them to assume with generosity that they would hardly have credited the merits now recognized without the constant support of his superiors, comrades and subordinates and, to an even greater extent, their families.
Finally, the Ambassador concluded the simple but solemn ceremony pronouncing a toast in honor of His Majesty the King of Spain.
