Over one thousand US and Spanish military paratroopers participated until today in a joint exercise that took place at the National Training Center of Chinchilla, in Albacete.

During the exercise, called "Sky Soldier", parachutists from both countries have trained the interoperability of their units, performing different tasks that allowed each party to get familiar with the procedures, tactics, and equipment of the other.

The exercise began on February 25th, with the participation of the second battalion of the Spanish Army Parachutist Brigade and the I-503 battalion of the US Army 173 Airborne Brigade, along with more than one hundred tactical vehicles, as explained at a press conference by Spanish Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Calvo, director of the exercise.

Working in a coordinated way helps to "seek solutions and exchange information during real time operations", added  Lieutenant Colonel Calvo.

On his part, the commander of the U.S. battalion, Michael Wagner, pointed out that the exercise is a very profitable collaborating opportunity to acquire experiences regarding a possible joint deployment in the field during a real operation.

Wagner also stated that this exercise is a new example of the US commitment with Europe and NATO allies.
