This Unit started its cooperation with the US Navy years ago
Throughout this month, a bilateral training exercise is being executed in waters close to Cartagena, with the participation of the Counter Mines Divers Unit (known as UBMCM) from the Spanish Navy, together with and a Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the US Navy.
This type of bilateral exercises are aimed to enhance the training, to maintain an optimal skill in using equipment and procedures for both units and also to improve their interoperability while comparing the applied methods and equipment used.
The intensive program included the use of mine detecting techniques during the day and night, suppression of submarine obstacles and exercises to deactivate drifting mines including divers jumping to sea from helicopters.
This exercise is part of bilateral training that the Spanish Navy Counter Mines Diving Unit has been executing for years with US Navy personnel, related to diving operations in the context of Counter Mines Warfare.
