The US Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) Plans Director, general Clinton E. Crosier, and the Chief of the Spanish Joint Staff Plans Division, Manuel Gimeno Aranguez, have recently signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance the knowledge of both nations with regard to the spatial situation and increase the safety of space flight operations.

According to general Gimeno, the agreement "will also improve the fulfilment of our mutual commitment to space security and defense".

In this way, Spain joins the group formed by nine nations (United Kingdom, Korea, France, Canada, Italy, Japan, Israel, Germany, and Australia), two intergovernmental organizations (the European Space Agency and the European Organization for the exploitation of meteorological satellites) and  more than fifty commercial satellites owners, operators or launchers that already were participating with the USSTRATCOM in the SSA (Space Situational Awareness) spatial data exchange agreements.
