In the coming months of May and June Spain will perform its largest military deployment abroad, specifically in Poland, when the "spearhead" of NATO, led in the year 2016 by the Spanish Army and the Alliance's headquarters in Bétera (Valencia), achieves its final operational certification after carrying out two relevant exercises to be held in that country during those months.

Most of the two thousand eight hundred troops of the «Galicia» Light Airborne Infantry Brigade, which is the core unit of the so called Very High Response Joint Task Force (VJTF), will travel to Poland to take part in the exercises 'Brilliant Jump"(May 17-26) and «Anakonda-16» (June 7-17).

The first aims to train the force deployment to any potential crisis endangering the safety in the NATO area, either in the eastern flank or in the south. The maneuver will also include a previous command post phase to be held at the military compound of Betera (Spain) between May 2nd and 6th.

The second exercise is mainly focused to show military presence to hypothetical conflict situations that may affect the geographical environment of the Baltic countries, Poland, Romania or Bulgaria.

Approximately twenty-five thousand troops from all NATO member countries are expected to participate in the «Anakonda-16» exercise.
