The Spanish Navy’s  LHD Juan Carlos I embarked four MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft from a US Marine Corps Squadron during NATO's Trident Juncture 2015 exercise last October.  Their home unit is currently deployed at Moron Air Base, Spain.

This deployment represents a significant milestone, since it is the first time a USMC Air Squadron becomes fully operational  on board a non-US Navy warship.

Apart from the four Ospreys, the Embarked Air Unit (UNAEMB by its Spanish initials) participating in the exercise included six Spanish Navy AV-8B Harrier VTOL aircrafts and one AB-212 helicopter.

The MV-22s were tasked with raid missions conducted by mixed Marine Corps companies from USA, Spain and Portugal.
