During his official visit to Spain, U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, reaffirmed that his country is committed to maintaining a strong relationship with a strong and united Spain, as said by President Obama, in an audience offered to His Majesty King Philip VI at the White House last September 15th.

Kerry held a meeting with his Spanish counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo, in which bilateral issues and international affairs were discussed. Afterwards, they gave a joint press conference, in which Mr. Kerry said the United States wants to maintain close cooperation with Spain on security issues as a member of NATO and within the European Union.

Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, held a meeting with Mr. Kerry at the la Moncloa Palace, where he addressed regional and international issues of special interest, including the situation in Syria and Libya and the peace process in the Middle East. Both welcomed the final radioactive decontamination agreement of land in Palomares (Almería), which was affected by the crash of two U.S. Air Force aircrafts that happened almost fifty years ago.

Mr. Kerry was also received by HM Philip VI, in a bilateral cooperation audience mainly about terrorism, also attended by Garcia-Margallo and the American ambassador in Madrid, James Costos.

Just as Defense Secretary Ashton Carter did in his recent visit to Spain, Mr. Kerry highlighted the excellent relations between the two countries, referring specifically to the field of security and defense.
