With the theme “Win in a Complex World”, the armament exposition that the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) organizes annually, took place from 12 to 14 October at the Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
The Chief of Training and Doctrine Command (MADOC), Lt.Gen. Jose Carrasco Gabaldon attended, representing the Spanish Army. Lt.Gen. Carrasco took advantage of the opportunity to meet with General Mark A. Milley, Chief of the US Army, and also held a meeting with his Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Gary H. Cheek.

Lt.Gen. Carrasco attended the most relevant events of the exposition, of which we should highlight the conference “Developing Future Leaders” chaired by his counterpart General David G. Perkins, Chief of TRADOC. During the conference, Lt.Gen. Brown, Chief of the Joint Armament Command, moderated a debate about the development of the adaptation of future military leaders by investing in educative experiences, in a wide range of opportunities and in realistic training, in order to win in a world that is becoming more and more complex.

The exposition ended with a black tie dinner headed by the former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and attended by Defense Attachés of several countries. By invitation of EXPAL, BG. Angel Valcárcel shared a table with its General Director, Pedro Sallent, and members of the board of shareholders. During dinner they talked about the increased expansion that EXPAL is having in the United States since 2011, and the growth expectations of the recent 156 million dollar contract with the US ARMY for the demilitarization, recycling, reusing, and deactivation of several types of conventional munitions.

They also discussed the commercial possibilities offered by AUSA to, as in other countries, showcase in future expositions the quality of their products together with other Spanish companies interested in exploring and initiating commercial ventures with the US Armed Forces. This could be achieved by means of exploring the possibility of promoting this presence in such ways that all of them could be appropriately represented, having at the same time the institutional support that could be provided by the Defense Attaché Office of the Spanish Embassy in Washington, D.C.
