The 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army handed components Spanish contingent in Besmayah, Iraq, the emblem of his combat unit as proof of having served in hostile territory in such US unit.

The tradition dates back to World War II when, after entering combat, soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division received that emblem.
