Vice Admiral Ted Carter visited the ENM on March 17th and 18th
On a visit between the 17th and 18th of March, the Superintendent of the US Naval Academy (USNA) Vice Admiral Ted Carter, toured the Spanish Naval Academy (ENM) to strengthen bonds of mutual collaboration.
Vice Admiral Carter was received by Captain Juan Luis Sobrino Perez-Crespo, ENM Director, and was able to see daily operations and the degree of implementation of a new teaching model and plans of studies that are taught today to future officers of the Spanish Navy.
VAdm. Carter had the opportunity to board one of the vessels in which students are trained everyday, getting a close view of the intense and varying degrees of training.
The visit included a tour of the various facilities where future officers coexist, such as laboratories, classrooms, navigation simulators, academic library, students barracks and the Defense University Center. Carter also gave a master lecture on leadership and shared lunch with students. This is the second time in history that the director of the US Naval Academy visits the ENM.
The visit strengthened close ties between both Navies and their naval schools. As a result of a cooperation agreement in the educational and professional levels since 2006, six American midshipmen study for a semester at the NME, while as many Spaniard students do so at the USNA. Concomitantly, there is a one officer-teacher exchange between the schools.
At the USNA, 4,500 midshipmen study for four years and have the opportunity to earn up to 25 different undergraduate degrees, most of them related to science, technology and engineering.
