Organized by the Defense Attaché’s Office in Washington
Organized through the Defense Cooperation Attaché’s Office in collaboration with the International Relations Office of the General Directorate for Armament and Materiel (DGAM), a defense industry day has been held for the second year in a row having gathered eleven Spanish companies interested in presenting their products to the Office of the Secretary of Defense´s Comparative Technology Office (CTO).
As a result of the success of the previous edition, the great acceptance among the companies meant that they had to previously go through a first selection process by the CTO among the fifteen interested companies.
Furthermore, of the 36 candidate products to be presented, 24 were finally selected, which is considered a high percentage.
The CTO´s goal, through the Foreign Comparative Testing Program (FCT), is to identify, test and evaluate foreign products and military equipment already developed and in the production phase, which could become reliable alternatives fulfilling the requirements of the U. S. Armed Forces, and which might be of interest due to their cost efficiency and ease of acquisition.
The Industry Day began with welcome words by Ambassador Ramon Gil-Casares, thanking Colonel Scott Wallace, CTO Director, for his priceless help in coordinating the attendance of the U. S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force teams, as well as for the additional workload for his personnel of the projects to be presented.
Likewise, he thanked the Spanish companies for their effort to be in Washington, DC and wished them the best success in this initiative.
Following a presentation by the Director of the Comparative Technology Office in which he explained the FCT´s mission and the selection process of products offered by the foreign industry, the commercial representatives of CESA, CT INGENIEROS, DAS PHOTONIC, EVERIS, EXPAL, INDRA, INSTALAZA, NAVANTIA, PIEDRAFITA, SAES and TECNOBIT used individual presentations to make a general description of their industrial products.
Later on there were personalized meetings distributed in four panels formed by:
Office of Comparative Technology/Special Operations; U. S. Army/Marine Corps; U. S. Navy and Air Force. The day ended with a working luncheon that helped to continue the discussion of business opportunities in a more relaxed manner.

The favorable response to this kind of initiatives has encouraged the Defense Attaché’s Office to continue using this cooperation model with the national industry, and so on May 18 an industry day will be organized by the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) in cooperation with the Defense Attaché’s Office, the Spanish Association of Defense Technology Companies, Aeronautics, Security and Space (TEDAE) and the DGAM´s Foreign Support Office.
