His Majesty King Juan Carlos honored Senator Bob Menéndez with the Bernardo de Gálvez Award, given by the US-Spain Council Foundation in recognition of his contribution to the enrichment of the relations between Spain and the United States of America.
With this yearly award, the US-Spain Council Foundation intends to honor and recognize the work of people and institutions of U.S. nationality who, through their work, example or dedication, have fostered the cooperation between Spain and the United States, have improved their reciprocal knowledge and image, or have pursued any initiative that might have resulted in promoting the relations between both nations.
His Majesty King Juan Carlos handed U. S. Senator Robert ¨Bob¨ Menéndez the Bernardo de Gálvez Award in recognition of his role and his activities in favor of the relations between the United States of America and Spain. Close to 70 guests were present in the ceremony, among them Juan María Nin, president of the US-Spain Council Foundation, and the Ambassador of Spain in the United States of America, Ramon Gil-Casares.
During his speech King Juan Carlos congratulated Senator Menéndez and thanked him for his work, describing him as ¨a truly inspiring leader throughout his political career¨ and ¨a great friend of Spain¨, highlighting also that he was one of the first senators of Hispanic origin, having always shown pride in the cultural and historic Spanish heritage in the United States.
The US-Spain Council Foundation is a non-profit organization, founded in 1997 with the goal of fostering the already existing ties in different fields of activities: economic, financial, cultural, educational, political and professional, between Spanish and U. S. institutions, which will allow for a better mutual understanding, generating profitable projects in those areas.
In previous editions the award went to Bill Richardson, Hispanic Society of America, Jonathan Brown and Richard Gardiner.
