CLOSING CEREMONY PENTAGON INTELLIGENCE FUSION CENTER

Due to the end of the International Security Assistant Force (ISAF) mission in Afghanistan, on December 12, 2014 a closing ceremony in honor of the multinational intelligence cell Pentagon Intelligence Fusion Center (PIFC) took place at the Pentagon. This ceremony was chaired by Rear Admiral Paul Becker, Joint Chiefs of Staff Intelligence Director; Douglas H. Wise, Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) Deputy Director; and Thomas McNamara, Chief of Afghanistan-Pakistan Task Force (APTF), where PIFC is integrated into. Representatives from the Attachés Offices of Germany, Italy, and Spain, countries which have maintained personnel contribution until the closure of PIFC, attended the event.

Spain’s support to PIFC is another example of the firm Spanish commitment to contribute with its allies to establish a joint defense against common threats. A clear example of this commitment has been the deployment within ISAF’s framework, with a steady contribution of 1,500 troops and a loss of a hundred human lives. From January 1st, 2015 Spain will continue in Afghanistan with a contribution of 485 troops in Herat and Kabul within the framework of the new NATO’s mission Resolute Support, which will replace ISAF at the end of the year.
