US Army General Martin E. Dempsey, Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, visited the Spanish Naval Station Rota

US Army General Martin E. Dempsey, Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, visited last December 7 the Spanish Naval Station Rota and started his trip to wish Happy Holydays to the US Armed Forces posted overseas.

In 2010 NATO allies decided to increase the protection of Europe against ballistic missiles. To this end, two American frigates equipped with the AEGIS system was stationed at this Base in 2014 and two more will do so in 2015. The Base is also the intermodal hub of the Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) for Europe, Africa and Middle East. "Rota is key real estate for the United States and the presence of American troops continues to grow", announced General Dempsey.

Military commanders appreciated the extraordinary support of the population and reported that the increase of troops and families will have a positive impact on the infrastructure of the base, which will impact on schools, hospitals, supermarkets, facilities maintenance and support contractors. "The area and the chance to experience Spanish culture make this area an incredible opportunity," said Captain Greg Pekari, Chief, US Naval Station Rota.
