The Minister of Defense, Pedro Morenés, has confirmed today that Spain will continue to cooperate in the global fight against Ebola with all necessary guarantees, and with the experience gathered after the recent repatriation through Spanish military resources of two missionaries infected by the virus.

During the meeting at the Pentagon with his U. S. counterpart, the Minister spoke in these same terms confirming that Spain will engage in this task by allowing the use of Moron and Rota Bases, solely in transport missions by the U. S. Armed Forces. The Minister has clarified that the requests for use of these bases are under study and will be approved on a case by case basis.
The participation of our country in the global fight against terrorism was also discussed during the meeting. Morenés conveyed the Spanish government´s engagement in this fight, and announced that next week he will request Congress approval for the deployment of up to 300 military personnel to Iraq for training purposes.
The Spanish military will train Iraqi forces in special operations, demining and deactivation of explosive artifacts, tasks in which the Spanish Armed Forces are sufficiently capable and well-renowned.
The Spanish military will participate in this mission only in Iraq. In support of the fight against the Islamic State (IS) Spain will also contribute with the use of Moron and Rota Bases for logistic support.
