Spain has been one of the first 22 countries to join the new coalition against terrorism.

Pedro Morenés will meet this afternoon in the Pentagon (Washington) with Defense Secretary, Chuck Hagel, in order to discuss several aspects of the joint operations between the Armed Forces of both countries, including the coalition´s fight against the fundamentalist extremism in Iraq.

During the meeting they will discuss the Spanish participation in operations of the new coalition against terrorism in Iraq, still pending the approval of the Spanish parliament, and in other conflicts that affect international security, especially those still ongoing in Africa such as in the Sahel and in the Gulf of Guinea.
Both authorities will also discuss the control of the spread of Ebola and how it affects security, as well as the measures taken towards the fight against this disease.
Likewise they will discuss bilateral issues such as the use of the Spanish Bases of Moron and Rota, and other subjects regarding the collaboration of Armed Forces from other countries.
In this meeting Pedro Morenés will be joined by the Defense Joint Chief of Staff, Admiral Fernando García Sanchez, and by the General Secretary of Defense Policy, Alejandro Alvargonzález.
Admiral García Sanchez had previously participated in the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JEMAD) conference held in Washington on the 13 and 14 of this month. The conference focused on the study of measures against fundamentalist extremism in Iraq, and the plans for the deployment and participation of the participating countries.
Joint Chiefs of Staff from 22 countries participated in the conference, which was also attended by U. S. President Barack Obama, one of them being Admiral Garcia Sanchez. In this way Spain is among the first countries to join this new coalition against international terrorism.
